It will not be the first time France has organised a World Meeting. Two years after the Portuguese World Meeting, France hosted the 1989 World meeting with more than 2000 2 CVs descending on the Ardon field near Orléans. Under a blazing sun, participants came from all over the globe. The program was very lively, starting with the grand opening of a museum-exhibition presenting the 1939 prototype lent by Citroen.

Folk parties followed, many demos, and the highlight of the meeting, the flying 2 CV.

Some figures from the 8th World Meeting of 2CV Friend in 1989 :
- 50 000 litres of beer consumed during the 4 days ,
- 76 000 € cost of all the equipment on the site,
-
38 000 € of advertising revenue for the meeting.
